Strategic Alignment: Ensuring Teams are Focussed on Goals that Matter

People will generally do what they enjoy

Human beings are naturally attracted to doing things they enjoy and gain personal fulfilment from.  Tasks get done that people like, then people make their way down the list begrudgingly, and some tasks - well they never get done!

Bringing teams together to align focus is imperative

Refocusing, realigning and clarifying purpose is important to focus a team’s effort. Listening to a team, hearing their challenges, and helping them see how they can make a difference towards your organisational purpose matters.

Translating strategy matters

Putting a corporate strategy together and expecting a team to interpret and put it into action, is a like a game of whispers.

People need the opportunity to understand the strategy, ask questions, clarify and develop team strategies / project plans that align to supporting the overall organisational strategy.

Linking and sharing goals makes a big impact

Ideally team goals should link to achieving organisational goals and flow through to individual development plans.

Another great idea is visually sharing organisational strategy and goals, as well as team goals. This serves as a regular visual reminder and helps others see what a team is focussed on and how leaders or others across the organisation might be able to support.
